It depends which organisation performed the review. Many countries have their own review process which often provides the data for larger international lists such as the IUCN red list, which is produced annually. They state that the Giant panda has declined from very rare in 1965 to endangered in 1990, and are to be included again this year after review. They usually don't update the info unless it has been a number of years or a change in distributions/abundance.



Since 1990 there has been an abundance of successful captive breeding events, and a few of these captive bred individuals released into the wild. However the species will probably still be listed as endangered when this year's list is produced.
